About a month after Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide, actor Kangana Ranaut had promised that he would return his Padma Shri award if he failed to prove his claims about the former’s death. And now that the Forensic Department of the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) rules out murder in the case, the Indians remind Kangana of his promise.

Following SSR’s death, Kangana had posted a couple of videos on social media accusing various members of the film industry of spreading nepotism and pushing the actor to suicide.

She had spoken about the pressure and rejection Sushant was facing from Bollywood and the media. She also lashed out at journalists for blindly writing articles about celebrities without taking names. Ranaut questioned whether her death was a “suicide or a planned murder.” She went on to say that if she cannot prove the claims she has made, she will return the honor that the Indian government bestowed on her.

Now, after a series of complaints, accusations, arrests and a detailed investigation, the forensic report of AIIMS has ruled out murder theories in the case of the death of the actor. The report called it a suicide case in the department’s “conclusive medico-legal” opinion to CBI, dismissing the theories of poisoning and strangulation. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may continue its complicity in the suicide investigation line, sources told CNN-News18.

The report also questioned the absence of time of death from the autopsy report and pointed to the dimly lit autopsy room at Cooper Hospital. The report ruled out the poison angle in the late actor’s death.

The report was met with mixed reactions. #KanganaAwardWapasKar has also been the main trend on Twitter for the past few days with netizens asking Kangana to “do whatever he talks about” and return her award as promised because she hadn’t been able to prove what she initially claimed.

Although AIIMS has ruled out the murder, relatives of Sushant Singh Rajput have disputed the report. Sushant’s family’s legal team has written to CBI director Rishi Kumar Shukla to claim that the AIIMS medical board’s medico-legal report was “flawed”.
