On Wednesday, the Mumbai High Court granted bail to actress Rhea Chakraborty, who was arrested by the Bureau of Narcotics Control on September 8 after the agency filed drug-related charges against her in the case. The verdict comes just a day after an NDPS court extended his custody until October 20. Rhea Chakraborty is likely to be released from Byculla prison on Wednesday, after a month.
This is what the superior court observed in its verdict:
1. The Bombay HC said it does not believe that celebrities and role models should be treated harshly to set an example for the younger generation.
2. “I don’t agree. All equal before the law. No celebrity or role model enjoys special privilege in court. Similarly, such a person does not incur special responsibility when facing the law in court. Each case will have to be decided on its own merits, regardless of the status of the accused, ”he said.

3. “She is not part of the drug traffickers. He has not forwarded the medications he allegedly obtained to another person for monetary or other benefits, ”the superior court observed.
4. “Given that he has no criminal record, there are reasonable grounds to believe that he is unlikely to commit any crime while on bail,” the superior court said.
5. “There are reasonable grounds to believe that she is not guilty of any offense punishable under Sections 19, 24 or 27A (of the NDPS Act) or any other offense involving commercial amounts,” the superior court noted.
