Bangalore:
Karnataka congressional deputy DK Suresh tested positive for COVID-19 a day after his home was raided by the central investigative agency CBI.
Suresh, brother of the head of the Karnataka Congress, DK Shivakumar, whose properties were also raided on Monday, tweeted his health condition urging family, friends, CBI detectives and journalists to exercise caution.
“I would like to inform you that I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am asymptomatic and isolated. I ask my friends and family who have been in contact with me to get tested. I also ask CBI officials and friends of the media that were with me to do the same, “he wrote on Twitter.
The Central Bureau of Investigation raided the Bengaluru homes of the two congressional leaders, in addition to several other properties connected to them in Karnataka, Delhi and Mumbai on Monday. The raids started in the morning and lasted all day.
After the raids, the IWC brought a case against the head of the Karnataka Congress, DK Shivakumar, for collecting 75 million rupees as disproportionate assets. The raids were carried out based on information sent by the Directorate of Execution.
The CBI said it has found “incriminating material” in the raid.
The leader said the action against him was part of the BJP’s “vendetta policy.”
“This raid is a continuation of BJP’s policy of revenge against me. Congress was fighting on behalf of the people from Corona (virus) and exposing the failures of the BJP government. Such raids will not prevent me from fighting injustice. We will win against such tactics in the people’s court, “he tweeted.
The Directorate of Enforcement and Income Tax departments have been investigating DK Shivakumar for some time, including on charges of tax evasion and money laundering for which he was in Tihar jail.
Shivakumar, who was released on bail last year, had also contracted COVID-19 several weeks ago and has since recovered.
