Hathras case: UP government calls for a court-supervised investigation by CBI in the Supreme Court

Uttar Pradesh has asked the Supreme Court to order a court-supervised investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the Hathras gang rape case, which has sparked protests across the country, in an affidavit filed before the superior court. The state government has already recommended an investigation by the central agency.

The state government also said in the affidavit, which was released Monday, that the 19-year-old Dalit woman’s body was cremated overnight to avoid public order problems. The government has blamed political parties and civil society organizations for trying to create a caste divide after the September crime.

“The district administration made the decision to convince the parents of the victim to cremate her with all religious rites at night to avoid large-scale violence in the morning. Once the autopsy of the deceased victim has already been performed at Safdurjung Hospital, New Delhi, there can be no ill intention on the part of anyone to hasten the cremation, except to avoid the situation of political violence resulting from the planned caste division. by certain vested interests, ”the affidavit said.

In addition to the gang rape of Hathras, the state has also requested a CBI investigation into the alleged criminal conspiracy to spread the caste conflict, instigate violence and propaganda unleashed by certain sectors of the media and political parties.
