Lucknow: Veteran Samajwadi Party leader and Legislative Council member Mulayam Singh Yadav has passed away. Mulayam (92) breathed his last in his home village in the Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh around 9pm on Saturday.
His last rites were performed on Sunday.
Mulayam Singh shared his name with the founder and sponsor of the Samajwadi Party, Mulayam Singh Yadav. MLC Mulayam was also a close associate of former SP President Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Mulayam was a three-time member of the Legislative Council of Uttar Pradesh. He had also served as bloc president twice.
The current head of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, has expressed his condolences on the passing of the veteran party leader. Akhilesh said that Mulayam had worked for farmers, the poor and people from disadvantaged backgrounds his entire life.
Mulayam had recently undergone treatment at a hospital in Kanpur.
