IPL 2020, CSK vs KXIP: ‘Maybe I should be at no. 1 ‘- Stephen Fleming’s cheeky reply on MS Dhoni’s batting position – cricket

Chennai Super Kings returned to form on Sunday after they defeated Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets in Dubai. After winning the draw and choosing to bat, KXIP posted a total of 178/4 in 20 overs. In response, CSK starters Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson each scored half a century to do the job on their own. Watson scored 83 unbeaten on 53 balls, while Faf scored 87 unbeaten balls as CSK chased after the goal with 14 balls and 10 wickets remaining. (Total IPL coverage 2020)

During the course of the match, when Faf and Watson were building their partnership, commentator and former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was interviewing CSK head coach Stephen Fleming. During the interview, Gavaskar jokingly asked Fleming that if Watson and du Plessis won the game on their own, then there would be no questions about Dhoni’s batting position.

“If you win this game without losing a wicket, there will be no discussion of Dhoni’s batting order, will there?” – Gavaskar joked with Fleming during the broadcast of Star Sport Live.

In response, Fleming gave a cheeky answer that people might still wonder why Dhoni wasn’t hitting at no. 1 post.

“It will still come up (the question), maybe I should have hit 1. I’m prepared for that every time I have a press conference, but it will be a good situation to have, yeah,” Fleming said.

This was CSK’s second win of the season and came after three losses in a row. Dhoni’s batting position has been a constant line of criticism directed at CSK at the tournament. The three-time champions will face Kolkata Knight Riders next Wednesday.
