Delhi Capitals player Amit Mishra has been ruled out for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 with a bowling finger injury. “The 37-year-old suffered an injury to the flexor tendon of the ring finger of his bowling hand while trying to retrieve the ball during the Delhi Capitals game against the Kolkata Knight Riders,” Delhi Capitals said in a statement. The news comes hours before DC’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“Mishra will now consult with a specialist over the next few days to determine the most appropriate course of management for this unfortunate injury,” the statement said.

Mishra suffered the injury when he dived to his right to try to catch a return catch to fire KKR’s Nitish Rana during DC’s 18-run win over them, while throwing his first over in the match.

He pitched one more, firing a fit Shubman Gill in the process, but the physical therapist had to come out to treat him again, and he didn’t pitch after that.

“It’s unfortunate to lose Mishra in the middle when he was spinning the ball so well,” DC captain Shreyas Iyer said after the game.

“The worst part is that he looked at great pace and was bowling very well. His experience was something that not only helped him in the middle in these UAE grounds, but also the young spinners on the team,” he said a DC official quoted by the ANI news agency.

Amit Mishra is the second tallest wicket bearer in IPL history, with 160 scalps to his name, and only Sri Lankan pacemaker Lasith Malinga has more wickets in the tournament.

Delhi Capitals will now have to look for a replacement for the experienced spinner.
