Delhi Capitals have suffered a major setback as their veteran Amit Mishra has been ruled out of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) with a finger injury. The veteran leg shooter received a blow to the fingers during his victory over Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday in Sharjah.
Amit Mishra suffered the injury when he tried to get a catch from his own bowling alley against KKR. She missed the capture of Nitish Rana and hurt her fingers in the process.
“The 37-year-old suffered an injury to the flexor tendon of the ring finger of his bowling hand while trying to retrieve the ball during the Delhi Capitals game against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah on October 3, 2020. Mishra now check with a specialist over the next several days to determine the most appropriate course of management for this unfortunate injury, “DC said in a statement.
Amit Mishra recently surpassed Harbhajan Singh to become the second tallest bearer in IPL history. With 160 wickets, the 37-year-old is next to Lasith Malinga on the all-time list. Mishra could have surpassed Malinga’s 170 count, as the Sri Lankan legend had withdrawn from IPL 2020 for personal reasons.
Amit Mishra did not start the campaign for Delhi Capitals, but a shoulder injury to Ravichandran Ashwin during his season opener gave the veteran spinner a chance to be in the game XI. Mishra made the best possible use of the opportunity presented to him while unsettling opposing hitters immediately. Against Sunrisers, Mishra collected 2 wickets for just 35 runs.
In Sharjah, which has become a bowler’s nightmare, Mishra brought in all his experience and gave away just 14 runs in 2 overs and collected the big wicket from KKR opener Shubman Gill. However, she was unable to continue bowling.
Who will replace Amit Mishra at Delhi Capitals?
It remains to be seen if Delhi Capitals will opt for an Amit Mishra replacement, considering the firepower in their spinning bowling unit. Sandeep Lamichchane, a T20 globetrotter, has yet to get a chance for the Capitals and Axar Patel, who impressed in the opening games, had to go down to accommodate R Ashwin against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sharjah.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a massive hit as their leader Bhuvneshwar Kumar was ruled out with a hip injury Monday. He did not take the field in Sunday’s game after withdrawing from the final against Chennai Super Kings on Friday.
