“A high-level body of experts is studying all aspects of the vaccine, including how to ensure equitable distribution. The Ministry of Health in partnership with the state government is drawing up lists of groups of citizens that would require vaccines immediately, ”he said.
The health minister added that states have been told to submit lists of priority population groups that need to receive the vaccine first: doctors, nurses, sanitation personnel, ASHA workers, surveillance officers, etc., from both the sector private and government, will be part of the list.
The Health Ministry has set the end of October as a “realistic” goal to complete this exercise, he said, adding that the government’s goal is to receive and use 400-500 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine covering approximately 20 -25 crore of people by July 2021.
“We are also keeping an eye on the immunity data regarding the disease,” he said.
Meanwhile, India registered 75,829 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing its infection count to more than 6.5 million. More than 940 recent deaths bring the death toll to 101,782, according to the Health Ministry panel Sunday morning.
