Two naval officers killed in glider accident in Kochi

Two naval officers died Sunday morning after their glider crashed near the Thoppumpady Bridge in Kochi. They took off from INS Garuda on a routine training outing, the Navy said in a statement. And the glider crashed around 7 in the morning.

The two officers on the flight have been identified as Lieutenant Rajeev Jha (39) from Uttarakhand and NCO (Electrical Air) Sunil Kumar (29) from Bihar. Jha is survived by his wife and two children, and Kumar is not married. They were declared dead by the INHS Sanjivani doctors.

Southern Naval Command ordered an investigation into the incident.

The remains of the glider have been rescued by the Navy.

This comes two days after another officer was killed in Karnataka ‘Karwar on Friday night after his glider sank into the sea. His coach was injured and hospitalized.
