‘What the family of Hathras gang rape victim wants’: Priyanka Gandhi lists in 5 points

After Congressional leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met with relatives of the gang rape victim Hathras on Saturday, Vadra tweeted a list of questions and demands from the 19-year-old Dalit woman’s family.

The party’s general secretary said that the family wants a judicial investigation into the matter through the Supreme Court and that they have also sought the suspension of the Hathras district magistrate. Vadra added that the family of the 19-year-old Dalit woman wants to know why their daughter’s body was burned with gasoline without her consent. The Hathras family asks why they are being deceived and threatened, he said.

“Questions from the family of the victim of Hathras – 1. A judicial investigation will be carried out through the Supreme Court. 2. Hathras DM will be suspended and will not be given a great position. Why our daughter’s body was burned using gasoline without our permission. 4. Why we are being repeatedly deceived and threatened. 5. We brought ‘flowers’ from the funeral pyre, but how do we think this corpse is our daughter’s? Vadra tweeted in Hindi.

It is the right of this family to obtain answers to these questions and the UP government will have to give these answers, added the leader of Congress.

Her tweet came after she, along with Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders, met with the family and comforted them. The Congressional team stayed with the family for more than an hour after they arrived in Hathras at around 6.45pm after a series of dramatic events on their way to the district. Saturday was her second attempt to meet with the Dalit woman’s relatives after they were detained and even briefly detained on Thursday when they were on their way to visit Hathras.
