Top 11 performers in the first two weeks

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal will open as we look at the top 11 performers from the first two weeks of IPL 2020 in UAE.

It has been a successful two weeks at Dream 11 IPL 2020, and first we must congratulate BCCI and the related organizers for that. In this pandemic situation, we finally saw the start of IPL 2020, and so far, the players have adapted perfectly to the atmosphere without crowds.

So far, the two weeks have been a unique event. No team seems the strongest or the weakest. Each team has been defeated by one or the other team so far; thus creating a nice circle of defeat. Part of the reason for such competitiveness must be attributed to the lack of home advantage between the teams.

Overall, it has been 14 games so far and a quarter of the Tournament is almost over. So who has been the best performer so far across all departments? Let’s take a look at the top 11 performers from the first two weeks of IPL 2020.

Methodology:

As usual, we have eliminated any biases or perceptions when selecting the best performer 11. Our robust methodology prioritizes ‘Performance Rating’ to select players in game 11. Also, players have been selected based on their performance during the first 14 games only. Also, as the sample size is smaller, the 4 foreign player rule is not taken into account.

Openers:

Mayank Agarwal (KXIP) || KL Rahul (KXIP)

Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul, the tournament’s 2nd leading scorer and KXIP’s dynamic duo, come to the top performing team of the first two weeks. Even though KXIP finished seventh after the first two weeks, these two performed exceptionally well with the bat and gave KXIP an excellent platform.

In 4 innings so far, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul have scored 246 and 239 runs respectively. They both have a century and a fifty to their name, but the difference lies in the consistency. Mayank has had runs in all four games so far, while KL Rahul has failed once. However, they have been better than any other tournament starter with Mayank gets a rating of 10 and KL Rahul gets a rating of 9.1.

Medium order:

Faf du Plessis (CSK) || Sanju Samson (RR) || AB de Villiers (RCB)

Even with CSK finishing eight after the first two weeks, the team has some brilliant individual performances, and one of them is certainly Faf du Plessis. CSK’s batting champion, Faf has 195 runs in 4 innings with an average of 65. His lowest score so far is 22, and he has two fifty to his name. Faf enters the team with a performance rating of 7.8.

Sanju Samson started this IPL with two consecutive aggressive fifties on the batting-friendly Sharjah grounds. Some of the shots he played were simply impressive and made us admire the class in him. In general, with a consistency of 66.7%, Samson has 167 runs with a 55.7 average and a perfect 10 performance rating.

With Virat Kohli struggling to find form, AB de Villiers took full responsibility for stabilizing RCB’s hitting. In all three games so far, de Villiers has 134 races with an average of 67 and a performance rating of 8.4 He has scored 2 fifty-something so far, helping RCB win both games.

All terrain:

Kieron Pollard (MI) || Sam Curran (CSK)

In the great Mumbai Indians batting lineup, Kieron Pollard’s quick cameos can often go unnoticed. In the four games so far, Polly has scored 138 runs and her scores are 18 (14), 13 (7), 60 (24) and 47 (20). The last two shots were simply exceptional; simply because of the monstrous blows we witness. In addition, he also threw 4 overs in the Tournament having posted a wicket.

Sam Curran, the all-rounder of the bowling team, has played smartly so far in the Tournament. He has taken 5 4-inlet wickets, including a magnificent 3/33 spell in Sharjah. Additionally, he has been a pinch hitter in the order having scored 51 runs with a strike rate of 268.

Bowlers:

Rashid Khan (SRH) || Kagiso Rabada (DC) || Mohammed Shami (KXIP) || Yuzvendra Chahal (RCB)

The wicket column may be less for Rashid Khan with 4 wickets from 4 matches, but that doesn’t take anything away from the way he has thrown so far. It has an economy rate of 5.12; the lowest among the top 20 land grabbers, and the 3/14 spell against Delhi is the best spell of his IPL career. Rashid is the leader of this team with a rating of 7.9.

It feels like Kagiso Rabada doesn’t have any gap between IPL 2019 and 2020. He just picked up where he left off in 2019. Needless to say, he is the best bowler in the Tournament with a perfect rating of 10, and has taken windows in all three games. More importantly, it has also been able to reduce the execution flow with an economy rate of 6.25.

Mohammed Shami, the tournament’s leading land grabber so far, has been to KXIP what Kagiso Rabada has been to Delhi Capitals but at a slightly higher economy rate. Except for his death playing bowling, Shami has been absolutely accurate, and that has led him to take 8 wickets from 4 games. It’s a shame I’m the third member of the team, but KXIP is still at number 7. Shami gets an 8.2 rating for her performance so far.

Yuzvendra Chahal, second player on the team and leader of RCB, has thrown with a lot of control and in the right channels. He has taken 5 wickets from 3 matches, including his 3/18 match-winning spell against SRH. Chahal’s economy rate of 7.58 may be on the slightly higher side, but he’s been a hobbyist with a 6.8 performance rating.

So that rounds out the top 11 performers from the first two weeks of IPL 2020.

Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul (WK), Faf du Plessis, Sanju Samson, AB de Villiers, Kieron Pollard, Sam Curran, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal.
