KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government in the Center for running a “dictatorship” in the country, calling the saffron party a “pandemic” which is torturing the Dalits more.
Banerjee, who held a protest march against Hathras’ gang rape case, said that he will support the Dalit community to the end, as their caste is “humanity” and they do not believe in differentiation on the grounds of caste and religion.
The march, the first of the supreme TMC fiesty since March, when the national lockdown was declared to break the chain of coronavirus infection, covered the 2km distance between Birla Planetarium and the Gandhi statue on Mayo Road here.
Sharpening his attack, Banerjee said: “Covid-19 is not a major pandemic. BJP is the largest pandemic. It is the largest pandemic of atrocities against Dalits and backward communities.”
“We must confront these atrocities … The kinds of atrocities that are taking place are completely unacceptable,” he said, addressing the rally.
