NEW DELHI: After meeting with the family of Hathras’ victim, Congressional Leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday listed her demands, which included a judicial investigation through the Supreme Court and the suspension of the district magistrate.
Congress leaders Rahul gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi met with the family and stated that they will fight to ensure justice is done for the Dalit woman who died after being allegedly gang-raped.
In a series of tweets, Priyanka Gandhi listed some of the demands and questions from the victim’s family.
“Questions from the family of the victim of Hathras – 1. A judicial investigation will be carried out through the Supreme Court. 2. Hathras DM will be suspended and will not be given an important position. Why the body of our daughter he was burned using gasoline without our permission. ”
“4. Why do they repeatedly deceive and threaten us. 5. For the good of humanity, we brought ‘chita se phool’, but how do we think this corpse is our daughter’s?” Priyanka Gandhi tweeted in Hindi. In Hindu tradition, bringing ‘chita se phool’ generally means collecting the remains after cremation.

It is the right of this family to get answers to these questions and the UP government will have to give answers, said the secretary general in charge of Congress, UP.
After meeting the family of the victim, Rahul Gandhi tweeted: “I met the family of victim Hathras and understood their pain. I assured them that we support them in this difficult time and we will give them all the help so that justice is done for them.” .

“The UP government will not be able to act arbitrarily as the whole country is standing up to guarantee justice to the daughter of the country,” he said in the Hindi tweet.
While on his way to Hathras, a great drama unfolded in the national capital. There was a heavy police deployment on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border with barricades on the Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) airway and dozens of police officers deployed.

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, along with several party leaders and workers, were detained by the police and sent back to Delhi, after they tried to reach Hathras to meet the Dalit woman’s family.
In a morning Hindi tweet using the hashtag ‘Hathrashorror’, Rahul Gandhi said that the behavior of the UP government and police towards the woman and her family “is unacceptable to me. No Indian should accept this.”
He stated that “no power in the world can prevent me from meeting this grieving family in Hathras and sharing their pain.”
The 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped in a village in Hathras by four men on 14 September. After her condition worsened, she was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where she took her last breath on Tuesday.
She was cremated in the early hours of Wednesday, and her family alleged that local police forced them to perform the last rites in the dead of night.
Local police officers, however, had said that the cremation was carried out “according to the wishes of the family.”
