Lucknow:
The body of a girl who disappeared on 26 September in a village in the Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh was reportedly found mutilated in a field. Two men, both relatives of the girl’s family, were arrested, police said.
The crime was reported amid outrage over the gang rape and murder of a 20-year-old woman in UP’s Hathras, who was hastily cremated by police, far from her relatives.
The parents of the minor whose body was found have alleged that she was raped before she was killed.
Police said they sent the body parts for an autopsy, adding that they are investigating the crime. The girl was from the Castas Programadas community, as were the defendants.
“The girl’s father said they had a land dispute and two men who threatened them killed their youngest daughter. We have arrested them and are questioning them,” said Kanpur Dehat Police Superintendent KK Chaudhari.
In the images, a large group of police officers is seen walking in a file towards a thicket at the edge of a barren field. There, they find parts of the girl’s body scattered everywhere. The girl’s relatives are seen to collapse upon seeing the horrifying images.
Angry protests against the police and government have taken place across the country, including one in the national capital Delhi on Friday where Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal appeared and demanded that the four defendants be executed. .
The ruling BJP, who is under pressure for its apparent inability to prevent horrific crimes against women (at least two more assaults and rapes have been reported from the state since the Hathras case) had previously dismissed the opposition protests as a “stunt. political” .
