A 32-year-old Dalit woman in Narsinghpur district died by suicide on Friday. The woman was allegedly raped by three men on September 28, however, the police did not register her complaint for four days. The woman ended her life after her neighbors allegedly made fun of her for the rape incident.

The two policemen, including Deputy Assistant Inspector Mishrilal Kodape, were booked under section 166 (A) of the Indian Penal Code which punishes a public official for disobeying the law with the intention of causing injury to a person.

The woman was allegedly raped by three men, identified as Arvind Chaudhary, Prasu Chaudhary and Anil Rai, when she had gone to the field to cut grass. The woman’s husband and other family members visited the police station that night, but were asked to accompany the woman’s medical report the following day. The woman, along with her husband and other family members, visited the Ghotitoria police post on multiple occasions, but no complaint was registered.

While speaking to the media, the woman’s husband alleged that he and other family members were detained at the police station. “Instead, they asked me to pay money and I had to give the police 5,000 rupees to get out of the police station.”

Meanwhile, on October 1, when the woman went out to fetch water from the community’s tap, a woman, Leela Bai, and a man, Motilal, are said to have made fun of her, after which she was killed.

Later that day, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan accepted the matter and ordered a criminal case to be registered against two police officers, including the Ghotitoria outpost manager, Assistant Deputy Inspector (ASI) Mishrilal Kodape, while diverting Additional SP Rajesh Tiwari and Gadarwara Subdivision Police Officer (SDOP).

Chouhan took to Twitter and ordered an FIR against the three defendants, saying: “Crime against women will not be tolerated in Madhya Pradesh. Those accused of rape are demons with no place in society. “

The CM also asked Police Superintendent Ajay Singh for an explanation. While speaking to The Indian Express, Ajay Singh said: “Based on the husband’s complaint, the three defendants have been arrested and registered under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, while Motilal and Leela Bai have been charged. of incitement to suicide.. “

The SO added that a forensic team has been called in to gather information from the scene of the incident.

The woman’s husband, however, said: “If the police had acted in time, my wife would have been saved.”
