The new generation Mahindra Thar was launched on October 2 at a starting price of Rs 9.80 lakh, going up to Rs 13.75 lakh (both prices ex-pan-India showroom)
After having us waiting for months since it was first spied on being tested on public roads, Mahindra finally launched the new generation Thar on the Indian market on October 2, 2020 at a starting price of Rs 9.80 lakh (ex -showroom). Demo cars and test vehicles have begun arriving at select dealerships in 18 cities across the country, helping buyers familiarize themselves with the new SUV.
While the overall design of the 2020 Thar is certainly attractive, there is one element that seems a bit out of place, namely the front radiator grille. The previous generation Thar came equipped with a grille design similar to the original Jeep Willys, however the new model has a redesigned plastic-looking grille with 6 vertical slats.

The video has been uploaded to YouTube by Vandisamrajyam, which showcases a new grille that drops the Mahindra insignia and gets a seven vertical groove design. The new grille adds more character to the front fascia of the new generation Thar and integrates well with the overall design of the car. However, it is surprising to see the staff of an authorized dealer equipping the car with a replacement accessory, nonetheless, on the day of the car’s official launch in the country.
Speaking of the 2020 Thar, it is offered with a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine that generates 150 hp of maximum power and 300 Nm of maximum torque (320 Nm with AT), as well as a 2.2-liter diesel engine that makes 130 hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. Transmission tasks are handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox, as well as an optional 6-speed automatic torque converter on both powertrains.
