Burj Khalifa to show images of Mahatma Gandhi today

To mark the 151st birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates will honor the iconic leader with a special show. The Indian Consulate in Dubai in a tweet said that it will broadcast live via its social media pages a special program on “Relevance of Gandhi’s message in the 21st century” at 7pm on Friday.

Images of Gandhi would be shown at Burj Khalifa with his messages at around 8.15pm on Friday, Gulf News previously reported. “We are grateful to Emaar for his support,” the Indian consulate told Gulf News.

On the occasion of the 151st anniversary of Gandhi’s birth, consulate officials also carry out a cleaning campaign at the facilities. “With the support of the Indian community, 151 trees will be planted at different sites to mark the occasion,” says the report.

The annual discussion for students, which is held under mission sponsorship at GEMS Our Own Indian School, will be hosted online due to COVID-19. Essay writing and drawing contests are also being organized for students, the report says.

At Gandhi Jayanti in 2018, a special LED show at the Burj Khalifa ushered in the two-year programming of 150 years of Gandhian ideologies in the United Arab Emirates.

The special LED show was jointly organized by the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi, the Consulate of India in Dubai and Emaar Properties. Images of Gandhi and the Indian flag were projected again on the world’s largest LED-lit facade on the same day in 2019.
