Kakali Ghosh Dastidar, another MP, said his team was close to Hathras when they were stopped by the police and some officers.
The team had traveled some 200 km from Delhi when they were arrested. The parliamentarians had wanted to meet the mother of the victim to express their solidarity and convey their condolences.
“We are traveling individually and following all Covid protocols and they still detained us. It is a raj in the jungle in UP, so they detained us as MPs while not protecting the dignity of a raped woman,” MPs said.
