Hathras case: Sitaram Yechury and D Raja join the Jantar Mantar protests

Security has been tightened around the India Gate on Friday night when protesters demanding justice for the victim of the Hathras gang rape case began to gather in Jantar Mantar. The Aam Aadmi Party changed its protest venue from the India Gate to Jantar Mantar after Section 144 of the CrPc was imposed, which prohibits any mass gatherings in the India Gate area.

CPM Secretary General Sitaram Yechury and CPI leader D Raja participated in the protest. “The UP government has no right to remain in power. Our demand is for justice to be done, ”Yechury said.

However, there was no change of venue for the Bhim Army protest. Instead of meeting at the gate of India at 5 p.m., Bhim’s army chief Chandrashekhar Azad asked his supporters to meet at Jantar Mantar. “Like a dictator, the police have closed the entire Gateway of India, showing the dictatorship. But we will not let the demand for justice weaken. Modi ji will have to respond, ”tweeted the head of Bhim’s army.

In a video message posted earlier in the day, Azad said Prime Minister Narendra Modi needed to break his silence on the brutal rape of the woman. “The prime minister washes Dalits’ feet before the elections, but remains silent when a Dalit daughter from Uttar Pradesh is brutally raped. We will organize a protest at India Gate today at 5pm. The prime minister will have to give us answers, ”he said.

Bhim’s army chief had also led a protest at Safdarjung hospital gate number 5 on Tuesday, shortly after the victim was pronounced dead. On Wednesday, Azad was placed under house arrest by local police in Saharanpur, where he started a “dharna”.
