New Delhi: India received on Thursday (October 1, 2020) its highly anticipated new generation of VVIP aircraft at Delhi International Airport from Boeing’s facilities in the USA. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on their official trips to countries abroad.
The aircraft has advanced features in electronic warfare suits, it has its own missile defense system called Infrared Countermeasures for Large Aircraft (LAIRCM), which is capable of countering missile threats.
This will be the first Indian aircraft equipped with Self Protection Suits (SPS) that can block enemy radar signals and also deflect the direction of nearby missiles.
It is equipped with an advanced communication system that allows you to take advantage of the over-the-air audio and video communication function without being hacked.
The aircraft comes complete with a conference room, a VVIP passenger cabin, a medical center, as well as seating for other dignitaries, staff. Once refueled, this aircraft will be able to fly continuously for 17 hours.
The new aircraft is painted ‘Air India One’ with the Ashok emblem on one side, while ‘Bharat’ in Hindi and ‘INDIA’ in English has been printed on the other side. Also, the tail has the National Flag, tricolor painted on it.
The American-made jet comes from US-based Boeing for a whopping 1200 crore.
Air India Engineering Services Limited (AIESL), which is a subsidiary of the Indian national airline, will maintain the two new aircraft. A team of 40 Air India pilots have been trained together with IAF pilots to fly the latest generation VVIP aircraft.
Once in use, the new 777 is reported to be as advanced as the US President’s Air Force One Boeing 747.
