Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished his ‘friend’ US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania a speedy recovery and good health after the couple tested positive for coronavirus.
“Wishing my friend @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS a speedy recovery of health,” the prime minister tweeted minutes after the president of the United States announced that he and his wife had tested positive for Covid-19.
Earlier, Trump tweeted: “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for Covid-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get out of this TOGETHER! “
The first U.S. couple had been tested for Covid-19 after one of Trump’s closest advisers, Hope Hicks, tested positive for the disease. They both tested positive for the infection.
Praising Hicks, Trump had posted: “Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a little break, just tested positive for Covid-19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are awaiting the results of our tests. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process. “
Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic has become a major issue ahead of the November presidential election. During the first presidential debate on Tuesday, he was severely criticized by his Democratic Party rival, Joe Biden.
