The Indian military said on Thursday that Pakistan initiated an unprovoked violation of the ceasefire along the LoC in the Keran and Machhal sectors of the Kupwara district in the afternoon by firing artillery weapons, mortars and other weapons. “An adequate response is being given,” the Army has said.
Earlier in the day, two soldiers were killed and four wounded in an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Naugam sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Pakistan initiated an unprovoked violation of the ceasefire along the LoC in the Naugam, Kupwara sector on Thursday morning firing mortars and other weapons,” said Srinagar-based defense spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia.
He said two soldiers were killed and four wounded in the gunfire from across the border.
“Wounded personnel are being evacuated while an adequate response is being given to the Pakistani shooting,” he added.
This year there have been several violations of the ceasefire by Pakistan throughout the LoC, especially in northern Kashmir.
On Wednesday, Lance Naik Karnail Singh was killed during the bombing of Pakistan along the 744 km long LoC in the Krishna Ghati (KG) sector of the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The deceased soldier was a native of Loha Khera in the Sangrur district of Punjab.
On Monday, an army soldier was wounded when Pakistani forces opened fire on Indian pickets in the Machil sector in northern Kashmir.
