DRDO successfully tests fires laser-guided anti-tank missiles | India News


NEW DELHI: An indigenous development laser guided anti-tank missile it was successfully tested Thursday in Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, authorities said.
It was the missile’s second such test launch, with a range of up to 5 km, in the past 10 days, they said.
The weapon was test fired from an MBT Arjun tank in KK Ranges at the Armored Corps Center and School (ACC&S) in Ahmednagar on Tuesday, officials said.
“The ATGM employs a tandem thermal warhead to defeat armored vehicles protected with explosive reactive armor (ERA) at ranges of 1.5 to 5 km,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

He said the ATGM has been developed with the ability to launch from multiple platforms and is currently undergoing technical evaluation testing with a 120mm rifled barrel from MBT Arjun.
The Arjun is a third generation main battle tank developed by the DRDO.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on the successful firing test of the ATGM.
The ministry said the defense minister congratulated the DRDO on the missile’s successful test launch.
Based in Pune Weapons research and development establishment (ARDE) developed the ATGM in partnership with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and the Instrument Research and Development Establishment (IRDE).
