Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap interrogated by Mumbai police in rape case

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap arrives at the Versova police station to be questioned in a rape case.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who arrived at the Versova police station this morning after receiving a subpoena on Wednesday, is being questioned in a rape case filed last week. The Producer-Director has called the rape allegations “unfounded” and said he intends to take legal action in this regard.

His lawyer Priyanka Khimani also came to the police station.

The subpoena was issued after the actor met with Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari, along with Rajya Sabha MP and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, seeking Kashyap’s arrest.

She had questioned the “delay” in arresting Anurag Kashyap and said she would go on a hunger strike if no action is taken.

On Monday, while addressing the media with Minister Athawale, the actress had said she faces a threat to her life and demanded Y-plus security. Athawale, who has backed the actor’s demand that Kashyap be arrested and undercover from security, said his party, RPI (A), would protect her.

The actor had recently accused Kashyap of imposing on her in 2013. According to the actor, he had named three other actors as “one phone call away.” In response, she claimed to have told Mr. Kashyap: “You’ve given Richa Chadha, Mahie Gill, Huma Qureshi a chance … they are such nominal looking girls. Generally, directors don’t give them a chance, but you’ve done great work. But I’m not mentally ready for this right now (sic). “

While Richa Chadha has sent legal notice to the actor, Huma Qureshi has responded with a note in which she writes that the comments angered her and that to the best of her knowledge Anurag Kashyap never behaved inappropriately towards her or with nobody else.

Mr. Kashyap has maintained that the accusations against him were “attempts to silence him” and simply undermine the seriousness of the #MeToo movement that affected the film industry last year.

The critically acclaimed filmmaker has received support from various members of Bollywood, including ex-wives Kalki Koechlin and Aarti Bajaj, who have championed him.
