Anurag Kashyap has arrived at the Versova police station to register his statement in relation to the alleged case of sexual assault registered by a 30-year-old actress against him. A senior police officer had previously confirmed to HT that the 46-year-old filmmaker had been summoned to join their investigation.
Mumbai police registered an FIR against Kashyap on September 22 after the actress and her lawyer Nitin Satpute approached them. In her police report, the actress has alleged that Kashyap raped her in 2013. Kashyap had dismissed the accusations, calling them “unfounded”.
On September 20, the actor had accused Kashyap of sexual misconduct. In her complaint to the police, she said that in August 2013, the filmmaker called her at her apartment located on Yari Street, Andheri, Mumbai on the pretext of giving her work on his film. Then Kashyap allegedly pushed her onto a couch and put his hand over her mouth so she couldn’t scream for help and sexually assaulted her.
Following her complaint, a case was recorded under Sections 376 (I) (rape), 354 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to violate her modesty), 341 (undue restraint) and 342 (confinement improper) of the Indian Penal Code.
“I ask the authorities to be kind enough to take action and let the country see the devil behind this creative guy. I am aware that it may harm me and my safety is at risk. I am looking for an action against him, ”he told the media.
On Monday, the actor at a joint press conference with the Union’s Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, had demanded that Kashyap be arrested. The two had also met with the Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, in Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum requesting protection and arrest of Kashyap.
