Government issued “Unlock 5” guidelines as country crossed 62 lakh of coronavirus cases

On Wednesday, the government published new “Unblock 5” guidelines that will ease further restrictions, including movie theaters and multiplex cinemas, which will be able to reopen at 50% capacity starting October 15. Schools and universities will be able to reopen from October. 15, the center said, adding that the final decision on the matter will be made by states and educational institutions.

Here’s what will reopen and stay closed on Unlock 5:

  • Movie theaters, multiplex cinemas and theaters will reopen from October 15 with 50% capacity.
  • The amusement parks will also reopen beginning October 15 with mandatory guidelines.
  • Schools and educational institutions can reopen from October 15, however, the final call falls on institutes and states. Online classes will continue and will be preferred. Students may go to school with written parental consent. Attendance should not be forced on students, the center said, adding that mandatory guidelines must be followed if schools decide to reopen.
  • Social, academic, sports, entertainment, political, cultural and religious functions and gatherings with more than 100 people will now be allowed starting October 15. However, face masks, social distancing, and thermal scanning are a must at all of these gatherings. In enclosed spaces, a maximum of 50 percent of the capacity will be allowed with a maximum of 200 people.
  • The pools can also be reopened for the training of athletes and the center will issue more guidelines in this regard.
  • International air travel will remain suspended except as permitted by the Ministry of the Interior.
  • There are no restrictions on the interstate and intrastate movement of people and goods. No separate electronic permits or permits will be required.
  • The Ministry of Education will decide in consultation with the Ministry of the Interior on the reopening of the universities.
  • Institutes with only research scholars in science and technology streams that require laboratory work can reopen as of October 15 if the institution director can confirm that there is a requirement from scholars.
  • Trains, subways, domestic flights, markets and restaurants have already reopened or resumed service, with some restrictions.
  • Only essential services will be allowed in containment zones. The lockdown will continue in the containment zones until October 31.

The government issued the “Unlock 5” guidelines when the country crossed the 62 lakh mark in the total number of coronavirus cases. The number of new cases in the last 24 hours was 80,472 and 1,179 deaths were reported, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

Coronavirus cases have been steadily increasing across India and a total of 97,497 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

India, which is behind the United States on the list of nations most affected by the coronavirus, has been recording the world’s highest daily Covid spike since August 8. The country has been posting the world’s highest daily peak in coronavirus numbers since the beginning of this month.
