Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 37 runs to win the second game in a row after starting the tournament with a loss.
Led by contributions from Shubman Gill (47 of 34) at the top and Eoin Morgan (34 of 23), KKR posted 174 of 6 in his 20 overs. Jofra Archer pitched superbly for RR, finishing with a 2/18 spell in four overs.
RR started his chase on a bad note losing Steve Smith (3 of 7) cheaply. Soon, Sanju Samson (8 of 9) and Jos Buttler (21 of 16) also followed Smith back to the cabin. Karthik was exceptional with his bowling changes and positions on the field as well.
He was greatly helped by a full performance from the KKR bowlers, with Pat Cummins (1 of 13 in 3 overs) casting an excellent opening spell and youngsters Shivam Mavi (2 of 20 in four overs) and Kamlesh Nagarkoti (2 of 13 in 2 overs) making sure RR hitters are not fumbled, collecting wickets at regular intervals.
Sunil Narine, however, was on the expensive side, leaking 40 runs and picking up just one wicket.
Dinesh Karthik, in the post-match presentation, said it was a good performance, but the team still needs to work on some weak areas.
With the victory, KKR jumped to second place in the points table, helping Delhi Capitals (DC) get back to the top position. Both KKR avd DC have the same points (4) but DC are at the top due to better Net Execution Rate (NRR).
