Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Chairman Tejasvi Surya, on his first visit to Bengaluru after assuming the party’s national office, said he remained committed to his comment that “Bengaluru had become a center of terror.” Surya had made the comments citing the violence at DJ Halli and KG Halli that led to the burning of an MLA residence and the attack on a police station in which three people were killed.
“My blood boiled when the violence occurred and Congress gave a tacit encouragement to PFI’s thuggish behavior. Congress should apologize for their role, ”added Surya. The young BJP leader represents the electoral district of South Bengaluru in Parliament. His comment that the city had emerged as an epicenter of terrorism had drawn severe criticism from Congress and JD (S).
KPCC chairman DK Shivakumar had demanded that Surya be fired, adding that his statements were destroying the brand equity of the city known as a center of technological innovation. JD (S) leader Kumaraswamy had also criticized the comments.
However, Surya said his demand that a branch of the NIA be established in Bengaluru appears to have created heartburn in Congress as it will “destroy his match-fixing with SDPI (PFI’s political arm).” The MP also said that Bengaluru was the place that had given him education and food, and that the BJP gave him a sense of Asmita (pride). He thanked the party leadership for giving responsibility “to an ordinary young man who used to tie the party flags to the poles. This is only possible at BJP, as all other parties function as limited liability companies, ”he stated.
