New Delhi:
On Wednesday, India successfully tested the extended-range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile that can hit targets at more than 400 kilometers range.
Congratulating the team of scientists involved in today’s successful test, DRDO President Dr. G Satheesh Reddy said this will lead to the addition of “more indigenous content” to the supersonic cruise missile.
The test firing was carried out within the framework of the PJ-10 project of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), under which the missile was launched with an indigenous propellant.
The missile was launched from a ground facility in Odisha.
This is the second test firing of the extended-range version of the missile that has a locally developed fuselage and propeller.
The BrahMos is a supersonic ramjet cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, fighter jets, or from the ground.
The missile has been developed as a joint venture between the DRDO and the NPO Mashinostroyenia Federal State Unitary Enterprise (NPOM) of Russia.
