Mumbai Police Summons Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in connection with sexual assault case | Hindi Movie News

Mumbai police on Wednesday summoned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap to appear before them on October 1, in connection with the sexual assault charge against him.

The director is reportedly expected to appear before the Versova police on Thursday for questioning about the crime against him.

Actress Payal Ghosh accused the Bollywood filmmaker of allegedly ‘raping’ her seven years ago. In an exclusive interaction with Etimes, Payal’s lawyer, Nitin Satpute, said: ‘The written complaint that has been filed is for the crime of rape, undue restraint, undue confinement and outraging the modesty of women under articles 376, 354, 341 and 341.

The actress accused the filmmaker of sexual misconduct, a charge that Kashyap dismissed as “completely false”.

On Monday, Ghosh in a joint press conference with Ramdas Athawale, chairman of the Republican Party of India (RPI), had demanded Kashyap’s arrest.

“Payal submitted a memorandum to the governor, seeking protection and arrest of Anurag Kashyap,” Athawale said.

He added: “It has been eight days since he raised the issue with the police, but no action has yet been taken against Kashyap.”

Athawale met with Mumbai Joint Police (Law and Order) Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil on Monday, along with Ghosh, seeking action against the filmmaker.

The actress and Athawale also met with Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari to ‘present a memorandum’ and seek action against Kashyap.

After the meeting, Athawale told reporters after the half-hour meeting with Koshyari that the governor has said that he will speak with Maharashtra’s Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh about the issue.
