In 2018, 33,356 violations were registered throughout the country, compared to 32,559 in 2017, according to data for the corresponding years.

The NCRB, which reports to the Union Ministry of the Interior, is tasked with collecting and analyzing crime data from across the country. The agency has compiled the three-volume report after collecting data from 36 states and UT and 53 metropolitan cities.

Once again, the Interior Ministry clearly said that West Bengal has not shared the most recent data, which is why the 2018 data has been used to arrive at national and municipal figures.

The Union Secretary of the Interior Ajay Bhalla thanked all the states and UT that carried out the gigantic exercise to collect data during the coronavirus outbreak.
