This schedule immediately leads to interesting board pairings in the first round. Most notable is the possibility of a clash between GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Ian Nepomniachtchi, the two leaders of the FIDE Candidate tournament. They will play on board one of their respective teams, Europe and Russia, if the captains decide to start with their main lineups (see below).
MVL joined the live show for a moment and, when asked if it could contain anything in preparation, recalled that he had already played Nepo as a target in Yekaterinburg: “If I play with white, it is not a party that appears in the candidates, and I can play my preparation if I want. “

Other possible matchups on the board include GM Viswanathan Anand against Hikaru Nakamura and GM Ding Liren against Teimour Radjabov. The deadline to submit team lineups for captains is 30 minutes before the start of the round.
Anand is the only player who also serves as the team captain. Wouldn’t that potentially lead to internal conflict? What if Captain Anand wants the player to sit outside a round, but Player Anand does not want to?
Answering the half serious question of how this argument would win, the Indian GM joked, “Oh, but I’m going to whip it!”
FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, team captain for Rest of the World, also joined the broadcast. He started by saying, “Thank you for a beautiful ceremony. Chess.com is really instrumental in doing this at a high quality level.”
His team faces China’s favorite qualification in the first round. Dvorkovich: “It will be difficult. In the Chinese team, there are some really good players, like the top 10 players in the men’s section and two world champions in the women’s section.”
Below you will find all the equipment. The first four players are part of the main lineup, while players five and six are reserve players. “C” represents the captain.
