My India today launched the successor to India’s best-selling smartband at the Smarter Living 2021 2021 virtual event. Mi Band 5, which already launched in China earlier this year, has many additional features that are signs that it is under Mi’s market share in India is likely to decline. If you are looking for an affordable smartband, here is a comparison that will help you determine whether to wait for the new version / update or stick with the 2019 model.
Mi Band 5 vs Mi Band 4: Screen
The screen size has increased on the Mi Smart Band 5. It has a 1.1-inch AMOLED screen instead of the 0.95-inch AMOLED screen of the previous version. Mi Band 4 came with less than 100 watches, while Mi Band 5 comes with unlimited watch faces and can be customized by the user as well. It really is up to the user whether or not they want a larger screen to choose between the two.
Mi Band 5 vs Mi Band 4: key features
On both devices you can track your calls, see notifications, track your activity and they are water resistant up to 5ATM. However, in the Mi Smart Band 5, the Personal Activity Intelligence Activity Index (PAI) has been introduced which will allow to offer a detailed health tracking rating based on physical activities and heart rate from 1 to 1000 per day. Mi also claims that the sleep monitoring system has been improved by 40 percent, helping to better track REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep.
With the Covid-19 pandemic in mind, the newest version has 11 sports modes that include indoor exercise tracking features such as indoor cycling, pool swimming, jumping rope, rowing machine, and yoga. Mi has also targeted potential female buyers, as the Mi Smart Band 5 will come loaded with menstrual tracking capabilities. Along with these features, you will also have breath tracking, stress monitoring as many are working from home, and automatic activity detection.
Mi Band 5 vs Mi Band 4: battery and charging
The Mi Smart Band 4’s battery could last up to 20 days on a single charge. On the other hand, Mi Smart Band 5 can last two or three weeks depending on whether you use it in normal mode or in power saving mode respectively. However, the big change here is that you won’t need to remove the strap to charge the watch like previous versions, as the Mi has introduced magnetic charging in the new generation.
Mi Band 5 vs Mi Band 4: Price
My India has not raised the price to the point of surprise. Mi Band 4 launched for Rs 2,299 last year, while the newer version will set you back Rs 2,499. It will be available on mi.com, MI Home, and Amazon starting October 1.
