The Karnataka government informed the parents of the school’s students today that the state was in no rush to reopen schools and also asked them not to panic over the same thing. State Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said: “We have not yet made any decisions regarding the reopening of schools in the state. The government has no plans to reopen schools at this time.”
The government also reported that it was not considering resuming schools in the near future. Kumar also added while addressing reporters: “Let there be no panic. The state government has not yet responded to the call to reopen the schools. There are no plans to start them in the near future.”
It was on September 20, 2020 that the state government prohibited students in classes 9-12 from visiting their schools and colleges to meet with teachers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most schools, except state schools, currently conduct classes online via video conferencing for students. The minister said when addressing the media: “We are taking the opinions of legislators, deputies and concerned people. We will also have a discussion with experts and institutions in education.” The minister’s statement came after many reports emerged that he was seeking input from other ministers and the MLA on the reopening of schools, which have not held regular classes due to fear of the coronavirus since the closure was imposed in the state.
He added that “after hearing everyone’s opinion, we will make a decision. We are not rushing, we are not rushing. Taking into account the future of our children and the concerns of their parents, we will move forward.”
