NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman Tuesday he pointed to Congress for the head of the party Sonia GandhiAdvice to party-governing states to avoid farm laws introduced by the Center through legislative measures.
Sitharaman said that the opposition party in its 2019 Lok Sabha manifesto had promised the repeal of the Agricultural Products Market Committees Law.
The Union Finance Minister tweeted that Congress had promised to make trade in agricultural products, including exports and interstate commerce, free of all restrictions.
He then went on to ask whether Congress had made a false promise during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections or is “provoking the people now” by asking states to circumvent central legislation.
“From Section 7, page 9 of the INCIndia Lok Sabha 2019 manifesto: ‘Congress will repeal the Agricultural Products Market Committees Act and make trade in agricultural products, including exports and interstate commerce, free of all restrictions, ‘”Sitharaman said.
“Did INCIndia make a false promise during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections or are they provoking people now by asking states to circumvent central legislation? I wonder who advises their president?” she asked.
