PM Modi inaugurates 6 mega-projects in Uttarakhand, says comprehensive government work to clean up Ganges

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated six mega-projects in Uttarakhand on Tuesday under the Namami Gange mission. He also launched the Jal Jeevan Mission logo, via videoconference.

Projects include the construction of a 68 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP), upgrade of the existing 27 MLD plant at Jagjeetpur in Haridwar, and construction of an 18 MLD STP at Sarai in Haridwar. The inauguration of the 68 MLD Jagjeetpur project also marks the completion of the first sewer project adopted in the hybrid annuity mode of the public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

“In recent decades, great initiatives were taken to clean up the Ganges River, but those initiatives did not have public participation or vision for the future. As a result, the water in the Ganges River was never cleaned up, ”said Prime Minister Modi.

PM Modi said in Prayagraj Kumbh, the serenity of Ganges was experienced by devotees from all over the world and now during Haridwar Kumbh, the whole world is going to experience the bath of pure Ganges.

“Today, we are all seeing the results of this comprehensive government work. Today, work on projects worth Rs 30 billion under the Namami Gange project is ongoing or has been completed. The government advanced in four directions simultaneously. First, he began to lay a trap of sewage treatment plants to prevent dirty water from falling into the Ganges. Second, build wastewater treatment plants that can meet the needs of the next 10 to 15 years. Third, work to ensure that 100 large cities and 5,000 towns on the banks of the Ganges River are free from open defecation. Fourth, put pollution in the Ganges River and its tributaries, ”he said.

The prime minister said that if the old methods had been adopted, the situation would have been just as bad today.

“We have not limited the Namami Ganga Mission to cleaning up the Ganges, but have made it the largest and most comprehensive river conservation program in the country,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi said that from its origins in Uttarakhand to the confluence point in West Bengal, Ganges has enriched the lives of almost half of the country’s population, adding that cleaning up the river is necessary.
