Sources from Vadodara Fire and Emergency Services (VFES) said the four-story building leaned forward and fell onto the road. Several vehicles were damaged when debris fell on them.
Locals said they heard a loud noise around 12.05 a.m. Tuesday and ran to the crash site. Firefighters, upon arriving on the scene, began moving the debris, but then called on bulldozers to move the heavy concrete slabs to rescue the trapped people. Due to the darkness, portable inflatable lights were also brought to aid in the rescue.
Four people identified as Ritu Patel (19), Pradeep Patel (18), Vakita Patel and Kamlesh Patel (30) were rescued from under the rubble and taken to SSG Hospital. However, Pradeep, Vakita, and Kamlesh succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Firefighters said they were all from the Banswada district of Rajasthan and worked as construction workers in Vadodara.
A case of accidental death has been registered at the Panigate police station.
