New Delhi:
COVID-19 has shown that over-reliance of the global supply chain on a single source is risky, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in an apparent reference to China. Prime Minister Modi made the remarks during a virtual virtual summit with his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen.
The Prime Minister added that India is working with Australia and Japan to diversify the supply chain, noting that like-minded countries can join the initiative.
“The pandemic showed the risk posed by over-reliance of the global supply chain on a single source,” Prime Minister Modi said without naming any country or source.
India has been looking to attract companies looking to move out of China after the coronavirus outbreak.
The government has already reduced corporate taxes to one of the lowest in Asia, seeking to attract new investment in an economy that marked its first contraction in more than four decades this year.
The virus first appeared in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year before spreading across the world.
The statement comes at a time when the country is embroiled in a military showdown with China along the Royal Line of Control in eastern Ladakh.
Recently, the Indian Army decided to maintain its current troop strength in all key areas in eastern Ladakh in the winter months, as there was no sign of an early resolution of the border row with China.
