Harsha Bhogle and Shane Warne engage in Twitter war of words after Rajasthan-Punjab game

Cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle is one of the most loved commentators around the world. Harsha Bhogle is known for his immaculate analysis of the game and for changing the face of sports broadcasting in India by commenting without a cricket lineage. The ‘Voice of Cricket’ has rarely been mired in controversy. However, on Sunday, Harsha Bhogle was involved in a war of words with former Australian spinner Shane Warne.

Dream11 IPL 2020: Harsha Bhogle and Shane Warne engage in a war of words

Rajasthan and Punjab participated in a racing party on Sunday at Sharjah’s cricket stadium. After being invited to bat first by Rajasthan, Punjab posted a mammoth 223/3 in its 20 overs. Mayank Agarwal (106) scored a scorching century and KL Rahul (69) broke a good half century to propel his team to a grand total. In the process, the Punjab duo also posted the third-highest opening partnership in league history with a 183-run position.

After the Punjab innings ended, Harsha Bhogle took to Twitter to express her views on Punjab batsmen and the iconic Sharjah cricket stadium. The veteran commentator praised Punjab batsmen, adding that when he was covering cricket in the 1990s, Sharjah’s field didn’t seem so small.

However, Shane Warne was not impressed by Harsha Bhogle’s comment, as he immediately responded to the commenter’s tweet. Shane Warne stated that the ground seemed smaller to the players and added that he would not know because he was not a bowler.

Harsha Bhogle wasn’t going to let go of Shane Warne’s answer as he came up with statistics to back up his comment. Harsha Bhogle said that the approach back then was different than it is now. He also revealed the average ODI score in Sharjah in the 90s to back up his claim.

In response, Shane Warne acknowledged that statistics don’t tell the whole story. He also said that bowlers back then were better and pitches were different. However, he was optimistic about Rajasthan’s chances and said they were still in the game.

Eventually, Rajasthan scored a famous four-way victory and posted the highest chase in IPL history. Chasing a total of 223 Punjab sets, the Rajasthan hitters put on a show when they hit the target with three balls to spare. Sanju Samson (85 of 42 balls) and Rahul Tewatia (53 of 31 balls) were the stars of Rajasthan, who showed a sensational hitting game to see their team at home.
