Mumbai:

The audio recording of Shiv Sena’s leader, Sanjay Raut, was played today by Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut’s attorney to prove abuse as the Bombay High Court heard a petition regarding the demolition of the actor’s office on Pali Hill.

“The fact is that one of my tweets received a very strong response from Sanjay Raut, where he said he had to teach me a lesson,” the lawyer said, quoting Ms Ranaut in court. When the court told them to play the recording of the Seine leader to prove the claim, Sanjay Raut’s lawyer, Pradeep Thorat, raised an objection: “The audio does not have the name of the petitioner.”

The court, which was holding the hearing virtually, responded by saying that it was Mr. Raut’s position “that you (in the audio)” did not abuse the petitioner (Kangana Ranaut). To this, Mr. Thorat replied, “We will file an affidavit tomorrow.”

Sanjay Raut, a member of Rajya Sabha, was caught on camera using an expletive in his tirade against actor Kangana Ranaut. He had been commenting on the 33-year-old actress about her comments comparing Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He had even told her that she should stay out of Mumbai.

While he did not apologize for throwing an abusive term at Kangana Ranaut amid outrage, he admitted in an interview that his choice of words could have been better. “He may have made a mistake,” Sanjay Raut told NDTV.

Kangana Ranaut’s Pali Hill office was demolished earlier this month; the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) claims it contains illegal buildings. The High Court had halted construction on September 9 in a huge victory for the actor.

The demolition, the court noted, was occurring “when she is out of state, ordering her to respond within 24 hours, and not granting her more time, despite the written request …”.

Today, Ms. Ranaut’s attorney told the court: “No work was being done. The notice was not issued based on any finding that work was being done. Assuming work was being done, per Section 354A of Under the BMC Law, the authorities must first issue a notice giving the person the opportunity to present the permit. Immediate demolition is not contemplated. “

“The parties also have the option to go to regularization. These opportunities were denied to Kangana Ranaut because the BMC authorities did not act in accordance with the provisions,” he told the court.
