A disturbing video has emerged of a senior police officer in Madhya Pradesh assaulting his wife, promoting actions against her. The officer has been changed and relieved of his duties. Purushottam Sharma, an officer in the rank of Director General, has justified his actions, calling it a “family dispute”, saying “it is not a crime.

In the widely shared video, Purushottam Sharma, an IPS officer from 1986, is seen arguing with his wife. In seconds, he is holding her, pinning her to the ground, and hitting her. Two other men can be seen in the room, one of them approaching the couple. A pet dog is seen barking and walking across the room as the wife is mugged.
The officer is also seen displaying wounds to his hand even as he continues to yell at his wife.
“If my nature is abusive, then I should have complained earlier. This is a family dispute, not a crime. I am not a violent person or a criminal. It is a shame that I have to go through this. My wife harasses me and has put up cameras. in the house, “the policeman was quoted as saying by the ANI news agency.
He said they have been married for 32 years and that his wife had complained against him in 2008.
“But the thing is, since 2008, she has been living in my house, enjoying all the facilities and traveling abroad at my own expense,” he would have said.
The wife was allegedly assaulted after she confronted Mr. Sharma with his friend.
In response to the incident, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said: “He has been relieved of his duties. If someone in a position of responsibility is found to be engaging in illegal activities and take the laws into their own hands , action will be taken against them, regardless of who they are. “
State Interior Minister Narottam Mishra said: “I have seen and read it too. If there are any official complaints, we will see.”
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken note of the video and its boss, Rekha Sharma, has written to the Chief Minister, asking for “appropriate punishment” for the officer. “Such incidents send the wrong message to society,” NCW tweeted.
