New Delhi:
Delhi Police Deputy Inspector Sandeep Dahiya, who had fled after shooting and injuring his girlfriend after a fight late at night, reportedly killed his father-in-law today in Haryana’s Rohtak, police said.
The officer is on the run with his service revolver that he used to shoot the two people, police said, adding that efforts are being made to arrest him.
According to police, Dahiya had gone to his wife’s maternal home with the intention of killing her, but instead shot his father Ranveer Singh, who was killed.
He and the 36-year-old policeman’s wife have been separated for many years and the two had been living separately, sources said.
For the past year, Dahiya was in a relationship with another woman who was reportedly shot during a fight and left by the roadside on GT Karnal Road in the Alipur area of North Delhi on Sunday, said the police.
According to police, Dahiya shot the woman when the two were fighting inside her car.
The woman was rescued by Deputy Inspector Jaiveer who reportedly saw her while crossing the Sai Mandir on the GT Karnal road.
“While taking the woman to a nearby hospital, the woman said she was shot by Deputy Inspector Dahiya, stationed at the Lahori Gate Police Station,” said Deputy Police Commissioner (Outer North) Gaurav Sharma.
The condition of the woman is stable, the DCP said, adding that a case has been registered against the defendant under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
