New Delhi:
The civil service exam scheduled for October 4 cannot be postponed due to the coronavirus crisis, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) told the Supreme Court today. The high court was hearing a request to postpone the civil service exam.
The court today asked the UPSC, the central recruiting agency for appointments and examinations for various government civil services, to file its affidavit by tomorrow and will hear the case again on October 23.
The exam, which was previously scheduled for May 31, was rescheduled for October 4 due to the pandemic.
20 aspiring civil servants had approached the Supreme Court, requesting that the crucial examination be postponed for two to three months due to the flood situation in various parts of the country, as well as COVID-19.
The applicants said that the civil service exam, being a recruiting exam, is completely different from an academic exam and in the event of its postponement, there would be no question of delay or loss of any academic session.
The petitioners said that holding the exams at that time “is nothing more than putting the lives of billions of young students (including the petitioners in this document) at greater risk and danger of illness and death.”
One of the petitioners, the father of a candidate, told the court that his son is a government official and that due to the heavy workload due to Covid, he was unable to take leave and prepare for the exam, while the others managed to stay. at home and prepare well.
Several other major exams have already been conducted, including the NEET and JEE medical entrance exam for admission to IITs, which were also postponed due to COVID-19.
