‘Ideologically there may be differences, but we are not enemies’: Raut on meeting with Fadnavis

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said on Sunday that he met on Saturday with former Maharashtra chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis to discuss certain issues and that the two might have ideological differences, but that there was no enmity between the duo.

“Yesterday I met with Devendra Fadnavis to discuss certain issues. He is a former Chief Minister. In addition, he is the leader of the opposition in Maharashtra and Bihar Polls, in charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Our meeting was arranged because he wanted to take his interview for Saamna. Due to Covid-19 and other reasons, it could not materialize, ”he said.

“There may be ideological differences but we are not enemies. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was aware of our meeting. We weren’t sitting in a bunker, it was an open meeting, ”he added.

In November last year, Shiv Sena withdrew from the NDA, eventually leading to party leader Uddhav Thackeray becoming the Prime Minister of Maharashtra thanks to the support of Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Raut also spoke about the departure of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP.

“The strong pillars of the NDA were Shiv Sena and Akali Dal. We were together in power and opposition. The Shiv Sena was forced to leave the NDA, now the Akali Dal has left. They have been with BJP since 1996. NDA has new allies, I wish them all the best. I don’t consider an alliance like NDA that doesn’t have Shiv Sena and Akali Dal, “Raut said speaking to reporters here.

Days after resigning from the union cabinet, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) decided on Saturday to withdraw from the BJP-led NDA alliance over “the Center’s stubborn refusal to provide statutory legislative guarantees to protect the assured marketing of agricultural crops in MSP.
