‘Perfect boss and mentor’: Omar Abdullah mourns the passing of former Union Minister Jaswant Singh


Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recalled the memories he has of working with former Union Minister Jaswant Singh, who died of a prolonged illness on Sunday and called him the “perfect boss and mentor.”

“He never made me feel like my job didn’t matter,” Abdullah said as he expressed his condolences to the late minister.

“Jaswant Singh sahib was my chief minister when I was minister of State Foreign Affairs. He supported me without interfering, was always available for advice, and never made me feel like my work didn’t matter. He was the perfect boss and mentor. Rest in peace sir, ”Abdullah, party chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, wrote on Twitter.

Singh died of cardiac arrest at the age of 82 on Sunday morning.

Singh was a former Union minister in Atal Bihar Vajpayee’s cabinet. Over the years, he held several important portfolios such as foreign affairs, defense, and finance.

Praising Singh’s work in finance, defense and foreign affairs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his regret at his passing.

“Jaswant Singh Ji served our nation diligently, first as a soldier and then during his long association with politics. During Atal Ji’s rule, he handled crucial portfolios and left a strong mark on the world of finance, defense, and foreign affairs. Saddened by his passing, ”Prime Minister Modi wrote on Twitter.

Singh contributed to the strengthening of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the prime minister further said.
