An Argentine politician resigned after the camera caught him kissing his girlfriend’s bare breasts during an online session of the country’s lower house of Congress. The incident was broadcast live on the government’s YouTube channel, as well as on a giant screen set up in Congress for virtual debates during the pandemic, The Guardian reported.
In an official statement posted on Twitter on Friday, the lower house of Congress said it had voted to accept the resignation of politician Juan Emilio Ameri, 47, a representative of the northern province of Salta.
During a virtual debate on pension fund investments, Ameri’s girlfriend was seen sitting on his lap before the politician pulled down his black blouse and performed the act. She later claimed that she thought she was offline when the incident occurred, The Guardian reported.
“I have a terrible [internet] connection at home, “he said during a radio interview. He explained that his girlfriend, who had recently undergone breast augmentation surgery, walked into the room when she thought her camera was off and the meeting was over.
“Let’s see what the implants look like, I said. Look, this is lower, this is lower, let’s look at the scars, and she was next to me and I kissed her tits and that was it, “he said.
The politician from the Peronist party of President Alberto Fernández, was forced to resign after the incident. He initially begged to be suspended from his seat, but later agreed to resign, according to the Guardian report.
A statement released by the government bloc in the lower house said: “We cannot allow irresponsibility of this magnitude, so we will guarantee that all the rules are applied so that he is sanctioned in the appropriate way according to the seriousness of his actions. “
Lawmakers around the world have held virtual meetings during the coronavirus pandemic. Also in the past, various politicians have been wrong during these online discussions.
