Captain Amarinder Singh on Shiromani Akali leaving NDA

'Caught between the devil and the deep sea': Amarinder Singh as Akalis leaves the NDA

Captain Amarinder Singh said that the Shiromani Akali Dal has become politically irrelevant now

New Delhi / Chandigarh:

Punjab’s chief minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, has called Shiromani Akali Dal’s decision to resign from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as nothing more than a “desperate case of political compulsion” for the Badals. The chief minister said the Badals “effectively were left with no other choice after the BJP’s public criticism of SAD over agricultural laws.”

Akali Dal’s highest decision-making body in a meeting tonight unanimously decided to withdraw from the BJP-led NDA due to the “stubborn refusal of the center to provide statutory legislative guarantees to protect the assured marketing of farmers’ crops. with a minimum support price “.

The meeting was chaired by Akali Dal Chairman Sukhbir Singh Badal, and the decision to resign from the NDA came at the end of the meeting which lasted for more than three hours.

Amarinder Singh said that “there was no high moral level involved in this decision” from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

“The Akalis had no choice before them, as the BJP had already made it clear that it held the SAD responsible for failing to convince farmers about the goodness of the agricultural bills. The SAD’s decision to resign from the NDA was just the culmination of their saga of lies and deception, which eventually led to them being cornered on the issue of bills, “said the Chief Minister.

“Sukhbir Singh Badal was caught between the devil and the depths of the sea after his unprincipled initial position on agricultural ordinances, followed by a sudden U-turn in the face of farmers’ protests,” said Amarinder Singh.

“The Akalis will now find themselves in a bigger political mess now, having been left without a place in either Punjab or the center,” Amarinder Singh said.

The Akali Dal becomes the third major NDA ally to withdraw from the group after Shiv Sena and the Telugu Desam Party in recent years.

Sukhbir Singh Badal said Akali Dal was the BJP’s oldest ally, but that the center did not listen to him to honor the farmers’ sentiments.
