Mumbai:
Executive producer Kshitij Ravi Prasad was arrested by the Office of Narcotics Control in a drug case related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, ANI news agency reported citing unidentified NCB sources. Mr. Prasad was also questioned yesterday by the OCN.
Dharma Production owner Karan Johar denied claims that Prasad is associated with the company. Prasad joined Dharmatic Entertainment, a company linked to Dharma Productions, in November 2019 as one of the executive producers under contract for a project that ultimately did not materialize, Johar said.
“Neither I nor Dharma Productions can be held responsible for what people do in their personal lives. These accusations do not belong to Dharma Productions,” said Johar.
Mr. Prasad’s home was raided yesterday by investigators. NCB sources said that Prasad’s name appeared during the questioning of some suspected drug traffickers.
While Rhea Chakraborty was arrested for her alleged links to drug traffickers, digital evidence found on mobile phones and laptops seized from other defendants led to intelligence on drug trafficking, which was subsequently verified, sources said.
The NCB says its research is aimed at capturing drug providers, but is also looking at how these providers were networked and who their customers were.
Actor Deepika Padukone was also interrogated for six hours today by the NCB in Mumbai. Ms. Padukone was summoned along with actors Shraddha Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan. Actor Rakul Preet Singh was questioned yesterday.
The drug investigation that began with the questioning of actor Rhea Chakraborty three months after Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai home has been expanded to include several people with ties to Bollywood.
Rhea Chakraborty has been in jail since 9 September on charges of arranging drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput. Her brother Showik Chakraborty and two Sushant Singh Rajput employees are also among 15 arrested on the basis of 59 grams of drugs found during raids in Mumbai.
