The NDPS special court in Bengaluru granted the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) five days custody of Kannada movie stars Ragini Dwivedi and Sanjjanaa Galrani, along with other defendants who have been arrested in a case related to the drugs
In its petition, the DE stated that the defendants should be questioned for their alleged involvement in a money laundering case related to drug trafficking in the Kannada film industry.
The infamous drug case is popularly known as the Sandalwood drug case, in which high-profile party organizers, foreign nationals and movie stars have been hired.
Leading actresses Ragini and Sanjjanaa have been in court custody for the past two weeks.
In their petition, the DE demanded to question Ragini, Sanjjanaa, the party organizers, Viren Khanna and Rahul Tonshe, in addition to the second division secretary of the Regional Transportation Office (RTO) and Ragini’s close friend, Ravi Shankar.
The ED argued that the nature of this case is such that the prima facie charges filed against these defendants could also attract various sections of the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
The DE also added that they had been investigating the case since September 9, so they needed to question the defendants in this regard.
Upon hearing the petition, the special court awarded custody of the defendant for five days to the DE.
